Foreign Samizdat Collection at Libri Prohibiti

Former Tito Archive

The ‘Office of the President of the Republic’ collection was a constituent part of the former archive of J.B. Tito and today comprises a separate unit within the Archives of Yugoslavia. It contains materials that were created in connection with the activity of the president of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito, who was at the helm of the state from 1945 to 1980. The collection is exceptionally rich in material relevant for the study of all aspects of Yugoslav history, and also contains documents relating to opposition activities during the time of his rule.

Forms of Resistance in Fine Arts

Временната колекция – изложба и каталог-книга „Форми на съпротива“, са посветени на художническото противопоставяне на властта в годините на държавен социализъм в България – 1944-1985. Представени са както формите на репресия над отделни творци в определени моменти от периода на държавен социализъм, така и активната роля на някои художници, формите им на съпротива срещу догмите на социалистическия реализъм, срещу опита да бъдат идеологически направлявани и срещу системата. За горна времева граница е определено началото на перестройката в Съветския съюз, поставила начало на окончателното разпадане на системата на държавния социализъм.

Fortepan

Fortepan is an extensive online collection of photos documenting the 20^th century until 1990. All the photos fall under creative commons license. Started as a private non-profit initiative, it grew out of a core collection of 5,000 images, and it has been dynamically expanding as both institutions and private individuals have donated photos. Images are largely about scenes of life in Hungary, but there is a growing number of photos that were taken in other countries. Fortepan is the largest free-use digital photo collection covering, among other things, cultural opposition under communism in Eastern Europe. Underground music scenes, alternative theatre and film, grey zone cultural activities, and the democratic and populist opposition are all topics covered in the collection.
