Miruna Stroe, born in Braşov on 4 August 1979, is currently an architect and a lecturer at the Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism, Department of History & Theory of Architecture and Heritage Conservation, where she teaches the History and Theory of Architecture. Her area of interest covers architectural history during communism and urban memory forms. In her research, Miruna Stroe has approached the communist policy on housing in Romania and the communist practice of living from a comparative perspective to other countries in the Soviet Bloc.
Miruna Stroe was a student at the Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest from 1998 to 2004. In 2007, she took her master’s degree in the Anthropology of the Sacred Space and Vernacular Architecture at the same university, where she also earned her Ph.D. in architecture in 2012. She is the author of the book Locuirea între proiect și decizie politică: România, 1954–1966 (Housing between project and political decision: Romania, 1954–1966) and the editor of Printed in Red: Architectural Writings during Communism. Since graduation, she has worked in the Department of History & Theory of Architecture and Heritage Conservation, Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest, first as an assistant lecturer and since 2015 as lecturer. In 2010, she initiated and coordinated, together with Ovidiu Taloş, the cultural project entitled Orașul Memorabil (The Memorable City) under the aegis of the Romanian Order of Architects–Braşov, Covasna, and Harghita Branch (Ordinul Arhitecţilor din România–Filiala Teritorială Braşov, Covasna, Harghita). The project involved multiple exhibitions in Braşov, Bucharest, Budapest, Vienna and Munich. Together with Ovidiu Taloş, she also initiated the projects entitled Arhitecții și arhitectura industrială în Brașov (Architects and industrial architecture in Braşov) and Arhitecții şi arhitectura în Brașov (Architects and architecture in Brașov). As part of this last project, in May and June 2013, Miruna Stroe and Ovidiu Taloş organised an exhibition at the Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest, on the subject of the architecture of Braşov during the period 1870–1914, a period when a series of iconic buildings were built in the city, influenced by artistic movements in Central Europe.
