In 2005, the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore published the volume Baltaragio malūnas ir jo byla: pirmoji Kazio Borutos "Baltaragio malūno" redakcija (The Case of The Mill of Baltaragis: The First Edition of Kazys Boruta's The Mill of Baltaragis, Vilnius: Lietuvos literatūros ir tautosakos institutas). The first edition of the novel had been withdrawn from sale in Soviet Lithuania in 1945. The novel received harsh criticism from the Soviet censors. It was later considerably altered by the author, and a new version appeared only in 1962. The 2005 edition of the novel was based on the original manuscript, which is stored in the library of the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore.
