Rezső Szabó Personal Collection
Rezső Szabó is a Hungarian lawyer and politician from Slovakia. His personal collection contains documents dealing with policies toward the Hungarian minority in Czechoslovakia including issues of culture and education in the languages of the minority. These documents are mostly from the time when Szabó was Secretary of the Hungarian Cultural Union CSEMADOK (1954-1969) and the time when he sat in the Czechoslovak Federal Assembly (1969-1971). The collection contains documents related to Szabó’s activities in 1968, when he was one of the activists who outlined requirements about reforms concerning the rights of minorities in Czechoslovakia. These documents are mainly bill drafts and laws concerning the problems of the Hungarian minority. The collection also contains a recording of a long interview with Szabó made in 2004.

Rezső Szabó is a Hungarian lawyer and politician from Slovakia. From 1951 he was a member of the Hungarian cultural union CSEMADOK, and later became the secretary of CSEMADOK. During the Prague Spring he belonged to a group of activists who outlined requirements about reforms concerning the rights of minorities in Czechoslovakia. Between the years 1969-1971 he sat in the Federal Assembly. In 1970 he was dismissed from both Communist Party and CSEMADOK due to his political activities. In 1990 he was one of the founders of both the Hungarian Christian-Democrat Movement and the political movement Coexistence (Együttélés). Between 1990-1992 he was a member of the Slovak National Council.
The collection belongs to the Forum Minority Research Institute since 2003. The main part of the collections are documents from the time when Szabó was the secretary of CSEMADOK – and includes, for example, reports from board meetings, bill drafts and laws. Important documents in the collection include Szabó’s bill drafts and comments from the time when he was a member of the Federal Assembly.
